Hidden Triple

Three numbers that can only go in the same three squares of a unit.

Like a hidden pair, but with three numbers. When three numbers in a row, column or box can only be placed in the same three squares, those squares are reserved for them, and every other candidate can be erased from those squares.

Hidden triples are rare and hard to see. Count how many times each number appears in a unit's pencil marks; numbers that appear only two or three times are the ones to check.

Step by step

  1. Count where each missing number can go in a unit.
  2. Find three numbers confined to the same three squares.
  3. Erase all other candidates from those squares.
